This December 8 marks the 41st anniversary of John Lennon’s assasination, and Veterans For Peace in Evansville is again honoring the artist and peace advocate with its annual John Lennon Night. The event takes place at Bokeh Lounge in Evansville and features music, poetry, and spoken word dedicated to the cause of peace. There is no cover charge, but everyone is asked to make a donation at the door. All proceeds will benefit Team Rubicon USA for the resettlement of Afghan refugees. The event will be streamed live and archived on Bokeh Lounge’s FB page.

This year’s roster features three storytellers who will each premiere a song penned for the occasion.

Daniel E. Market, Muscle Shoals, Alabama, has produced five collections of music, two of which (Wonderland Avenue, Afraid of What I Wear) were chosen as top independent releases by Nashville-based The Performing Songwriter magazine. Market counts John Prine, Gordon Lightfoot, and Harry Chapin among his influences. Find Dan’s music here.

Singer-songwriter Randy Pease, New Harmony, Indiana, professes a journeyman’s love for storytelling in a mix of styles—folk, blues, classic country, bluegrass, gospel, rockabilly and R&B. His “Ballad of Rosalie,” recorded by Cody Canada and the Departed, climbed to the top of the Southwestern country charts in the summer of 2011. Get Randy’s Music here

Evansville tunesmith Art “The Dude” Woodward recalls: “At the tender age of five, my daddy placed a harmonica in my mouth and said, ‘breathe son.’ I did. From then on I was hooked.” Woodward’s soulful harmonica complements the melodic tales he fashions in rock, blues, and country-rock styles. Find Art’s Music here.

Other acts set to enliven Bokeh’s stage are: Poet Bill Sovern, John Gibson and Peggy Pirro, Touch of Grey, Bit O’ Brit, Panacea, tuneStop, and Corduroy Orbison. Veterans For Peace gratefully acknowledges all the performers who are donating their talent to help refugees displaced by conflict.
