Food, Fraternity, and 35 mph Wind
Greetings. What a beautiful day for our cookout!!!!! The wind added to the intrigue and made one take care to strategize before setting ANYTHING on a table. We had 16 members and guests attend and feast on the wonderful array of side dishes and burgers & hotdogs cooked masterfully (again) by Dave Helfrich.
With food, camaraderie, and the pleasure of being outdoors the highlights, there also was GREAT anticipation for the attendance drawings featuring items of incalculable cost (and completely disproportionate value) from Peggy May's trove of "free" gifts from Tropicana & Bally. Ecstatic winners of the attendance prizes were Sharon O'Leary, Grace Strange, and Julia Lindenschmidt. (I don't know how all the winners turned out to be spouses/partners of chapter Executive Committee Members. But if any of you know who called the Indiana Gaming Commission Fraud Division, please tell them to cut it out. The neighbors and I are getting pretty antsy about the knuckle dragging footballers in trench coats, dark glasses, and the heavily tinted Suburbans in the neighborhood!)
We have a cadre of reliable, engaged members, as well as ad hoc volunteers who make our events successful. While all are appreciated and thanked, Dave Helfrich (aka the chef) is due separate recognition. Dave is a first generation member who I've taken the liberty to ask for his advice and help countless times. He has NEVER said no--including today! We love you Dave.
On a final note, you all heard my dear wife "suggest" that we have another cookout in the Fall. If you're a man, and if you're in a committed relationship with a woman--say a spouse or partner--then you know 99.9% of "suggestions" are actually thinly veiled demands! So, we'll plan to do this again in the Fall.
Peace,
Gary
P.S. Today's major oversight--we didn't take any friggin' pix! What are we gonna put on our web page?!
